Strategic Raw Material: Graphite from Ukraine
Ukraine holds the world's third largest natural graphite reserves. The Zavallia-Graphite plant in the Kirovohrad region is one of the largest producers of crystalline graphite. HS codes: 2504.10 (natural crystalline graphite), 2504.90 (other natural graphite).
Graphite is used in electrode production, lubricants, Li-ion batteries, refractories and crucible manufacturing. Growing demand for electric vehicles is increasing the need for graphite anode material.
Markets and Buyers
Key markets: Japan, China, South Korea (battery sector), Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia (refractories and lubrication). The USA and Canada are seeking alternatives to Chinese supply due to geopolitical risks.
Buyers include chemical conglomerates, electrode manufacturers and metallurgical enterprises. Minimum lot: from 5 tonnes for smaller buyers, from 50 tonnes for industrial contracts.
Quality Specifications
Crystalline graphite is graded by carbon content (98.5–99.9% C), particle size (flake size from 180 µm to +2 mm) and moisture content (<1%). Buyers require a quality passport and XRD analysis reports.
Battery anode material requirements are stricter: carbon content ≥99.95%, absence of iron, nickel and sulphur. Confirm specifications with the buyer before shipment.
Logistics and Packaging
Graphite powder and flakes are packed in large flexible intermediate bulk containers (BigBag) of 500–1,000 kg or in drums/IBC containers. It is essential to avoid moisture and iron contamination during storage and loading.
Transport: sea containers (FCL 20' ≈ 20–24 t or FCL 40' ≈ 26–28 t). The product is non-hazardous (IMDG), which simplifies documentation.
